Overview

RMS has recently partnered with Magnet, one of the UK's kitchen specialists, to close nine of their UK stores. These closures were part of a strategic decision made earlier this year by Magnet to streamline their operations. 

Our role involved providing comprehensive support to ensure each store was closed efficiently and the warehouse spaces were cleared.

Approach

RMS deployed teams of 2 to 4 specialists per store, carefully selected for their expertise in retail closures and stock management. Over the course of approximately three weeks per store, our teams worked meticulously to clear each site. 

The key tasks involved:

  • Warehouse Clearance - All warehouse inventory was systematically flat-packed onto racking. Items were then taken down from the racking, re-palletized, shrink-wrapped, and labelled ready for transport. This ensured that all goods were securely packaged and ready for shipment out of the store.
  • Waste Management - We coordinated the use of skips to dispose of any remaining materials, ensuring the site was left clean and ready for handover.
 

Challenges

Magnet required a partner that could handle the complexities of closing multiple retail locations within tight deadlines, whilst  ensuring minimal disruption and adherence to their operational timelines. 

Each store varied in size and inventory, requiring a flexible approach tailored to each store's unique needs. On average, we completed the work within three weeks per store. It required precision and a well-coordinated effort from our teams. 

Results 

Our teams completed the store closures within the set deadlines, consistently meeting Magnet’s expectations for efficiency and thoroughness. The seamless execution of these closures has gained positive feedback from Magnet’s management.
