Delivering a 5 Week Capital Maintenance Refurbishment

RMS has completed a major capital maintenance refurbishment at Tesco Chesterton, taking responsibility for the project from initial scoping through to completion and handover.

The 5 week programme saw RMS appointed as Main Contractor, with responsibility for coordinating the construction programme, specialist trades, Tesco direct supply chain and wider project delivery from scoping through to completion.

Across the approximately 400m² Tesco Express store, the programme brought together extensive construction, refurbishment, refrigeration, electrical and shelving works within one coordinated delivery plan.

End to End Project Delivery

RMS managed the project from conception through to completion, providing oversight across:

  • Initial scoping and programme development
  • Procurement of materials
  • Project and site management
  • Coordination of the RMS and Tesco supply chains
  • Health & Safety management
  • Site documentation and statutory inspections
  • Client meetings and programme coordination
  • Quality assurance and snagging
  • Project close-out
  • Production of O&M files

The project was led by an RMS Project Manager, supported by a dedicated Shelving Project Manager, Head of Construction and RMS specialist trade supply chain.

A Comprehensive Refurbishment Programme

The scope incorporated a wide range of construction and fit-out activity, including:

  • Asbestos removal
  • Complete strip-out of existing fixtures and fittings
  • Replacement refrigeration and new refrigeration plant
  • New gravity-fed drainage
  • Decoration and new partitions
  • New flooring throughout
  • Complete new shelving throughout
  • Electrical modifications and new lighting
  • New sanitaryware and kitchen
  • New roof to the garages
  • Concrete and joinery works
  • Shopfront and automatic door spraying
  • Cold room chiller and freezer refurbishment

Together, these works delivered a substantial refurbishment of the Tesco Express store.

RMS managed these works through close coordination of the specialist supply chain and careful management of the programme, allowing work to progress while maintaining the overall delivery schedule.

Delivered On Time with Zero Defect RMS Handover

The Tesco Chesterton refurbishment was completed on time, with RMS achieving a zero defect handover for its scope of works.

The project demonstrates RMS’s capability to deliver complex retail transformation as Main Contractor for Tesco, combining Retail Construction, Project Management, specialist trades and Installation within one coordinated programme from initial scoping through to final handover.
