Jonathan Bridges

We are delighted to share Jonathan's story and recognise his time with us at RMS.

How long have you worked for RMS?

I started with RMS in 2013 so I have been working here now for almost 10 years

How come you decided to join RMS initially?

I was looking for something different from what I had done in the past, Retail Management, but that still had a link to retail.

What did you do at first when you started at RMS?

I was a General Merchandiser. My first job was helping set up a Tesco local in a small village outside of Bournemouth.

What did you enjoy the most about working in the RMS field team?

Many things but mainly not being in the same place all the time and working with different people. Moving from project to project and seeing the improvements that we had made in stores was nice, especially when you had turned a non engaged store into one that was fully engaged in the project! Also seeing the guys I have worked with moving on to run projects of their own, that’s a great sense of achievement!

Was there anything you found challenging about working in the field?

On the flip side of the above, not being in the same place all the time meant that relationships had to be built on every new job with the store and your own team. I found it was about being prepared and organised to balance life when staying away from home.

What is your role now at RMS?

I'm a Project Assistant mainly working on the B&Q projects but I do dip into other areas of the business when needed. So I deal with phasing, reporting, ordering equipment, training and anything else that crops up on a daily basis.

How does your experience in the field help you now in your office role?

When I'm planning anything now, I am always able to see it from the point of view of the team working in the field. When I'm talking to the team in the field I know what they are talking about and I can empathise with them as whatever it may be, I know I've been there. If they need to discuss how to deal with a specific aspect of a project, I've probably already been there and done it before so I can help with advice and support.

Why should others consider a career at RMS?

It's a really varied job to anything that most people will have been used to and you build some great relationships and the best part is that you are never bored!

What is your favourite thing about working for RMS?

No day is the same!! If you want a boring life this is definitely not the job for you. I like the fact that I deal with so many different things daily. There is a great team both in the office and in the field and that's what makes the job fun and stimulating.

What do you hope the future holds for you at RMS?

For me I'm very happy doing what I do now. What does the future hold? As I said, you never know from one day to the next what will crop up but that's the fun bit!!
