Overview
Leading reliable retail transformations is what we strive to achieve everyday at RMS. And that is exactly what we did at Sainsbury's Talbot Green.
Following weeks of preparation and thousands of hours on the shop floor we successfully supported Sainsbury's with another fantastic new store launch.
The new Sainsbury’s flagship store in Talbot Green introduces several innovative concepts being brought together for the first time in a new store, with layouts designed to enhance the customer experience.
This 53,000 square foot space integrates modern retail design and advanced merchandising techniques to offer a wide variety of products in an engaging environment.
- 9 week investment project
- 5 days to produce over 23,000 shelf edge labels (SEL’s)
- 12 days to completely merchandise all stock from an empty shell to a fully stocked store
- 5.5 weeks of post opening support
- 8,670 hours of support delivered
- 67 RMS team members involved
Our team’s dedication and meticulous planning ensured every aspect of the store's setup was executed flawlessly, setting the standard for retail excellence.
Approach
Our approach combined strategic planning, expert project management, and skilled implementation teams working on the shop floor.
Specifics included:
- Detailed planning sessions to outline the project scope and timelines
- Preparation of all shelf edge labels (SEL’s) and using planograms to profile and label every bay across the store prior to the first delivery of stock
- A 3 stage process for set up with 3 teams spearheaded by a Team Leader to cover grocery, general merchandise and health and beauty
- A team of 8 systems colleagues worked to ensure the legality of the tickets ready on display and to update the stores system for controls to be in place regarding deliveries prior to trading
Using our proprietary technology platform, flex, we were able to schedule and manage our workforce efficiently, ensuring the right skills were available at the right time to meet investment demands.
With a team of over 50 at times, our team leaders worked well together to manage the different teams across the store.
Challenges
The primary challenge was the integration of various new concepts and ensuring each element was ready for the launch.
Coordination between different teams and adhering to a tight schedule required precise management and flexibility.
Developing on our previous experience and success of the opening of Sainsbury’s Hook last year, we spent some time reviewing how RMS could best support the opening of Sainsbury’s Talbot Green.
We had members of the account management team onsite daily for the duration of the project to help keep things running smoothly and allow for a prompt reaction to any hurdles that arose in store during the set up.
By leveraging our extensive experience and the flex platform, we overcame these challenges and delivered a seamless transformation.
Conclusion
The final outcome was a highly successful flagship store launch that exceeded expectations in creating a visually stunning and functional retail space that enhances the customer shopping experience.
After an efficient project execution that adhered to timelines and budget constraints, senior stakeholders at Sainsbury’s were particularly impressed with the high standards achieved.
The feedback from the store was brilliant, Darryl Pockock, Head of Retail Delivery, said:
“The first class standards achieved in the store by RMS were a fundamental element to the end product at this morning’s launch. Well done guys!”
“I am always confident that our teams deliver to the highest standards on a new store opening. The team excelled in Talbot Green in more ways than I thought they could.
I am incredibly proud of what every single member of our team achieved in this latest addition to the ever growing Sainsbury's estate.”
